Describe campus/program, goals, and theory of change

The mission of the John Tyler STEAM Academy is to expose our students to the careers available to them in the STEM
fields, expose our students to their post-secondary options, connect our students to extracurricular activities, and
prepare them for the 21st century world.

 

 

Describe Blueprint Benchmark strengths

Benchmark 4 & 5: The new dean of instruction who will be a support to the STEM program has previously been a PBL coach for Ingenuity Center at University of Texas Tyler. She will be an asset to provide teachers with PBL support and training. 

What areas of interest do you have for Technical Assistance (up to 3 areas, rank in order of importance)?
  • Re-establishing the Design Team and defines the role the team plays in the planning and development of the rebuilding of the T-STEM Academy
  • Revisit the TSTEM mission and vision to ensure it aligns to the blueprint
  • Develop the plan for the TSTEM academy moving forward since the change of leadership at the campus
What tools or resources would be valuable to your campus to support your implementation of the blueprint?
  • Connect the new leadership team with TSTEM academies to learn best practices
  • Leadership team needs a blueprint orientation 
  • Building a STEM culture campus wide
What have been your challenges and how have you addressed them?

Due to the complete turnover of all administration at the campus, the new administrative team did not realize they were a STEM campus until contacted  for the initial site visit. The assistant principal designated to oversee the STEM program was just informed a few days prior to the site visit. The AP did have a copy of the designation application, but unaware of the blueprint prior to the visit.
